Cavan fought back to secure a brilliant NFL win at Kingspan Breffni. They ignited a brave comeback with a five-point unanswered tally at the start of the second half and sealed an unlikely win when Christopher Conroy's fisted effort found the net in the 72nd minute.

Westmeath seemed poised to coast home after leading by 0-8 to 0-3 at the interval. Luke Loughlin shone for them with a 1-4 tally. They led their hosts a merry dance in the opening quarter and were full value for their 0-6 to 0-1 lead.

Neighbourly relations went out the window in the first half as three black cards (two to Westmeath) and a red card (Cavan) were dished out by Sean Laverty.

It wasn't until the 22nd minute that Cavan scored their second point, with Oisín Pierson converting a free. Cavan corner-back Paddy Meade received a straight red card for an off the ball tackle on Callum McCormack. However, Westmeath lost Denis Corroon to a black card in the 34th minute.

Cavan were transformed on the restart. Thomas Galligan and Stephen Murray both pointed as they levelled matters, 0-8 apiece, after 42 minutes.

Westmeath hit back with interest, with Loughlin goaling in the 42nd minute with his first touch of the ball.
