Mayo produced a devastating final quarter to become the inaugural winners of the series at Dr Hyde Park yesterday.

Two goals in as many minutes from Conor Diskin and Tommy Conroy underlined the winners' superiority as Mike Solan's charges made their possession and quality count against a Roscommon side that finished with 13 players.

Playing with the wind, the Rossies made a bright start with a couple of Cian McKeon points, but Mayo hit back with four points from full-forward Ross Egan and one from wing-back Paul Lambert.

Roscommon wing-back Aidan Dowd then hit the net, but Mayo hit back with a goal of their own when Ryan O'Donoghue was scythed down by Lorcan Daly, and the Mayo captain dusted himself down to convert the resultant penalty, giving his side a 1-5 to 1-3 interval lead.

By the 43rd minute, Mayo still led by two points - and they went for the jugular. Sub Colm Moran fired over before Conor Diskin scored his goal. Evan O'Brien added a point shortly afterwards before Tommy Conroy danced his way along the endline and lashed the ball into the net.

O'Donoghue and Lambert continued to cause havoc as Egan (3), Lambert (2), Moran and Stephen McGreal kicked points to see Mayo home.
