Connacht Post-Primary Schools SFC: Sweet revenge for Roscommon

Joint manager Willie Hegarty hailed his charges as Roscommon CBS, recently beaten by 11 points in the league final by Summerhill, put in a huge defensive effort to capture the Connacht Post-Primary Schools SFC title for the first time since 1998.

Hegarty, along with Seamus Heneghan, oversaw the turnaround which netted CBS their sixth Connacht title.

"The amount of work the clubs do with these lads is phenomenal and the lads themselves have put in a huge effort," said Hegarty.

They never trailed during Saturday's final at Carrick-on-Shannon, with wing-back Richard Hughes crowning a Man of the Match display with three points.

They were level four times in the opening half, with CBS adding three unanswered points, two from Roscommon U21 Noel Gately and one from James McDonald, to lead by 0-7 to 0-4 with five minutes left.

Kyle Cawley ended a 33-minute barren spell for Summerhill when he pointed three minutes from the end, but Gately's fourth point was crucial as the Sligo side hit two late points from captain Darragh Cummins, but couldn't save the day.
