Colman's have too much class
St Colman's, Newry 1-18
St Brendan's, Killarney 3-5
ULSTER kingpins St Colman's turned in a classy display of attacking football at Croke Park to win a sixth All-Ireland Colleges SFC title.
Colman's laid the foundations for victory early with Chris Clarke (3) and Caolan Mooney (2) on target as the Newry side raced into a 0-7 to 0-1 lead.
Substitute David O'Sullivan sparked Killarney's challenge when he tucked away a 26th-minute penalty, but Clarke brought his tally to five as the Down lads turned around with a 0-9 to 1-1 advantage that they never looked like relinquishing.
O'Sullivan netted a second penalty for Brendan's, but a string of brilliant points from Jerome Johnston kept the northerners on top, and a 54th-minute goal from substitute Shay McCartan made the title safe.
Paul Galvin's side did pull back a late goal through Tom Moriarty, but St Colman's were never in danger of losing out on a first Hogan Cup since 1998.
