Sligo recorded one of their biggest wins at senior inter-county level when hammering third-level students GMIT by 38 points in a woefully one-sided Connacht League tie at the Connacht GAA Centre of Excellence.
Led by the imperious Stephen Coen, who marked his return to Sligo's ranks by scoring an impressive 3-4, Sligo atoned for their loss to GMIT in last year's competition. It was also a first win in 2017 for Niall Carew's charges, who were beaten in the opening round by Galway.
Aside from the outstanding Coen, Adrian Marren was also sharp - kicking 0-8 - as Sligo were coasting at the interval with a 13-point lead, 1-11 to 0-1.
GMIT's only score came in the 30th minute when Christopher Donnellan converted a free.
Sligo scored at will in the second half, with Coen looking particularly sharp in front of goal, and captain Neil Ewing got in on the scoring act by adding 0-2 against Sligo's overwhelmed opponents.
