Coen drives Hollymount over the line
Hollymount-Carr 0-15 Loughinisland 0-10
The efficiency of Hollymount-Carramore up front proved vital in sealing another day out for them on February 6 on a wet and windy day in Breffni Park.
In addition, a double save from Hollymount-Carramore keeper Niall Campbell half-way through the second half and the expert free-taking of captain Darren Coen also proved pivotal in keeping Loughinisland at bay.
The Mayo men were all vim and vigour early on and were two points ahead after four minutes as their Down opponents laboured to get out of the blocks.
However, when the impressive Rory Mason scraped the Hollymount-Carramore crossbar to reduce Loughinisland's deficit to 0-3 to 0-2, after 14 minutes, the westerners looked vulnerable for the first time in the match.
Indeed, things didn't look all that healthy for Hollymount at half-time when they led by just 0-7 to 0-4 despite playing with the aid of a strong wind.
Sadly for the Ulster champions, things didn't go to plan on the restart and a gem of a point in the 44th minute from Coen made it 0-11 to 0-7 before Campbell twice denied Loughinisland sub Stefan Mason.
Hollymount-Carramore's defence showed sterling work in a frenzied finish to the game with full-back Darren McHugh deflecting Rory Mason's 57th-minute goal-bound shot over the bar.
