Clifford will need time - Moran

"I think he will get time because if things don't go well for him at the start, people will realise he is only 19 and give him a chance," Moran (p) said. Photo: Sportsfile

Kerry midfielder David Moran has called for Kingdom starlet David Clifford to be given time to develop as he prepares for his first season with the county's senior footballers.

Clifford is training with Eamonn Fitzmaurice's squad after two brilliant seasons starring for the county's minor side.

But Moran warned that supporters will have to give the Fossa sharpshooter time and that they shouldn't be expecting the youngster to carry that form directly into the senior game.

"I think he will get time because if things don't go well for him at the start, people will realise he is only 19 and give him a chance," Moran said.

"He is marking fellas eight or 10 years older than him and he is just learning the ropes. But I think it is just excitement, but I think there has to be patience to give him a chance.

"I suppose the thing about him last year was that he was very big for his age, he was a very big minor. He was so much bigger than all the other fellas as well as having all the attributes.

"This year he won't have that advantage. Look, it's very exciting, I'm delighted he's from Kerry but there has to be a small bit of patience with him."
