Classy Goulding steadies CIT ship

Cork IT 0-11
St Mary's Belfast 0-5

SIGERSON holders Cork IT set up a mouthwatering quarter-final with O'Byrne Cup finalists DCU but were made to work all the way by a resolute St Mary's.

The reigning champions were reduced to 14 men when Cork attacker, Paul Kerrigan, was sent off in the 47th minute having received a second yellow card.

When Antrim's CJ McGourty slotted a free a minute later, CIT led by just 0-7 to 0-5, and with St Mary's launching attack after attack against 14 men, a major shock looked on the cards.

However the Leesiders reeled off four points on the trot in the final six minutes to dig themselves out of a hole. All Star Daniel Goulding showed his class in that period.

First, he set up Ross O'Dwyer, who cut inside from the right before finishing calmly with his left foot. Goulding then added two points soon after and those scores knocked the stuffing out of St Mary's.
