Clare hurlers received a major boost last night when it was confirmed that the recently-returned Colm Galvin will be part of the panel for Saturday's qualifier clash with Offaly.

Former All Star Galvin had been away in America, but it was announced last week that he would be returning home and Davy Fitzgerald has now named him in the 26-man squad for the Ennis double-header

Fitzgerald will not name his starting 15 until tomorrow, but the Banner boss has been given an additional boost by the availability of three other key men.

Brendan Bugler (suspension), Conor McGrath and Aaron Cunningham (both hamstring) are all back in contention and are available for selection. However, Cathal O'Connell (calf) and team captain Patrick Donnellan (suspension) will both have to watch on.

The news is not so good for the Kildare footballers after David Hyland and Darroch Mulhall quit Jason Ryan's panel ahead of Saturday's make-or-break qualifier against Offaly.

One report had speculated that the Athy duo may be planning to spend the rest of the summer in the USA, but a club source says this is still unconfirmed.

Whatever their plans, it constitutes another unsettling setback for Ryan, a manager under pressure in the wake of Sunday's record-equalling 19-point defeat to Dublin.

Hyland came off the bench after just 11 minutes in Croke Park, replacing Ollie Lyons, and must surely have been in contention to start in Tullamore this weekend because of the latter's finger injury.

Mulhall, though, hasn't seen a minute of action off the bench during Kildare's three Leinster outings.
