Cavanaghs drive Moy to glory despite Glaveys' fightback
Moy 1-10 Michael Glaveys 0-7
Moy’s defensive steel saw them through to glory as they held off 14-man Michael Glaveys at Croke Park.
Tom Loughran’s early goal gave the Tyrone men a cushion which proved decisive as Andrew Glennon led a Roscommon backlash after they had midfielder Caoileann Fitzmaurice sent off.
In the end, Sean Cavanagh’s five converted frees and a man of the match performance from brother Colm were enough for Moy, who had to weather a furious storm.
Loughran smashed the ball to the net after just 28 seconds, and scores from Ryan Coleman and Harry Loughran opened out a five-point lead.
Glennon hit Glaveys’ only score of the first half. Eunan Deeney converted a ‘45’, and two Sean Cavanagh frees sent Moy in with a 1-5 to 0-1 interval lead.
Glennon landed a spectacular score from out on the left, with Stephen Comer also hitting a point from distance as Michael Glaveys closed the gap.
But Cavanagh’s accuracy from placed balls saw Moy restore their seven-point cushion.
Despite the loss of Fitzmaurice, Glaveys stepped up the tempo, running at the Moy defence and winning four frees which Glennon converted.
Moy went 17 minutes without a score, but recovered to hit late scores through Conall Duffy and Sean Cavanagh and close the game out.
