Cavan held Queen's scoreless in the second half as they coasted to victory in a tame second-round McKenna Cup tie at Ballyconnell.

Even minus a handful of first-team regulars, the hosts were a class apart.

The visitors did create the only two goal chances, but James Smith and sub Kieran Hughes were denied by keeper Raymond Galligan.

Cavan shot into a three-point lead before Ryan Treanor's free got the students on the board.

Cavan went up the gears and Ryan O'Neill fired over from long range with the final kick of the half. Once subs Kevin Tierney and Niall Clerkin made it 0-10 to 0-3 inside 90 seconds of the restart, there was only going to be one winner.

Even the sin-binning of impressive midfielder Paul Graham in the 52nd minute failed to alter the status quo.

Queen's never looked like adding to their paltry first-half tally.
