Cavan advance despite Farney's brave fightback
Cavan 0-14 Monaghan 0-14
Cavan safely secured their place in the McKenna Cup semi-finals after a benign contest at Kingspan/Breffni Park.
Monaghan recovered from a poor start to put Cavan to the pins of their collars.
Cavan sped into an early 0-3 to 0-0 lead but Monaghan battled back to tie things up at 0-5 apiece after 26 minutes. Cian Mackey edged Cavan back in front and the hosts led by 0-9 to 0-7 at the interval.
Monaghan substitute Owen Coyle levelled with a gem on 65 minutes and after Cavan midfielder Tomas Corr was red-carded in the 67th minute, the visitors had a last-gasp chance to win it, but Martin Reilly's 42 metre free drifted wide.
