DCU 1-15 UCD 0-3
Dublin City University progressed to the final of the 2020 Sigerson Cup as they eased past a disappointing UCD by 15 points at St Claire's last night.
The opening quarter was tight but the hosts assumed control and kicked on upon the restart to complete an emphatic victory.
David Garland and Ray Connellan traded frees in the early exchanges but it was evident from that stage that DCU had a marked advantage in terms of their attacking options.
UCD's only point from play arrived at the end of the first quarter through Conor Hartley but they were placed under greater pressure from that point with the hosts building up a 0-7 to 0-2 interval lead thanks to scores by Paddy Small, Garland, Michael Bannigan and the impressive Shane Carthy.
A Gary Walsh free in the 32rd minute offered brief respite for the visitors but it proved to be their final score of the game as their challenge petered out alarmingly after the break.
The clinching score came as early as the 34th minute as Garland was upended by Martin O'Connor with Bannigan poking home the resultant penalty after his initial effort was repelled by Gary O'Rourke.
DCU turned on the style in the final quarter with Small and Garland giving an exhibition in point-taking while goalkeeper Evan Comerford added two placed balls to rub further salt into UCD's expanding wounds.
