Blowhards' poison pollutes the airwaves

It's quite remarkable how supporters feel entitled to unload themselves of the most vicious bile when their team loses, while expecting to have their views – anonymously of course – relayed to the wider public.

KFM Radio was broadcasting from directly in front of my seat in the Croke Park press box last Sunday and it was fascinating to listen to some of the comments from Kildare fans after the defeat to Dublin.

It was also interesting to hear presenter Killian Whelan patiently explaining why many of the comments could not be broadcast because of their defamatory content. Kieran McGeeney and the Kildare players needed no reminding of how badly the day had gone.

Have no doubt either that they felt a whole lot more miserable than the nameless wonders who wanted their disappointment articulated in the form of abuse on local radio.
