Bergin brings curtain down on Galway career
GALWAY inter-county star Joe Bergin has announced he is ending his senior football career after 13 seasons with the Tribesmen.
Bergin (31) who came to prominence in 2000 when he won the Young Footballer of the Year award has cited work commitments and injuries as major factors in his decision.
But he also said he wants to extend his club career with Mountbellew-Moylough who last won the Galway senior football title in 1986
In 2001, Bergin was part of the Galway side that lifted the Sam Maguire and he captained Galway to win the All-Ireland U21 title in 2002.
However despite managing to win further Connacht titles in 2003, 2005 and 2008, Bergin failed to land further national titles.
