Clare earned two valuable points at Cusack Park, where they recorded their first competitive win over Cork in 20 years by proving too strong for a disappointing Rebels outfit.
Cork dominated possession early on, starving Colm Collins' men of the ball in a low-scoring half. They opened a 0-3 to 0-0 lead with points by Aidan Walsh, Luke Connolly and defender James Loughrey.
When Clare opened their account they did it with a goal by wing-forward Cian O'Dea after a great run by Ciaran Russell, cutting in from the left. Eoin Cleary added a point to put the Banner in front for the first time and at the half time whistle they were level at 1-2 to 0-5.
Clare regained the lead within 20 seconds of the resumption from a Shane Brennan point and were never again behind.
They controlled possession, picked off good points and made it difficult for Cork to build any kind of a platform.
Jamie Malone sealed the win with four minutes left with a timely goal. He cut through the centre of the Cork defence and off-loaded to David Egan whose shot was blocked by keeper Ryan Price. But Malone followed through and struck the rebound to the net.
