Armagh do enough to hold off outstanding Donegal fightback

ARMAGH 2-10 DONEGAL 0-12 Ulster MFC ARMAGH held out in a hectic finish to this exciting Ulster minor championship game that built in intensity during a very close second half as Donegal fought back from being nine points down at half time.

Donegal got off to the better start and opened a two-point gap with scores from Ciaran Greene and Darin Irwin but that was the only time they were ahead in the first half. Armagh opened their account with a point by Colm Watters and then took the lead for the first time with a goal from Sean Clarke in the seventh minute.

Armagh went on to lead at half time by 2-6 to 0-3, Paul Kernan getting their second goal just before half time when he was on hand to blast home after an initial shot by Kyle Carragher had been blocked.

In the second half Donegal were a transformed side and came back with a bang as Stephen Griffin and Dara Gallagher found the range while Armagh seemed a little complacent and by the end of the third quarter Donegal had the deficit down to six points.

Further scores form Stephen Griffin (2) and Dara Gallagher brought them to within three points entering the final minutes but Armagh held out with Kyle Carragher sending over an insurance point a minute into stoppage time.
