All-Ireland 'hat-trick' for McQuillan as he gets call to ref Dublin v Mayo
Joe McQuillan will take charge of his third All-Ireland SFC final after the GAA confirmed that he will referee Sunday week's Mayo-Dublin showdown.
The Cavan official was in charge of football's biggest day in 2011 when Dublin edged Kerry and 2013 when the Metropolitans beat Mayo.
McQuillan was also the man in the middle when the two sides clashed in the All-Ireland semi-final replay in 2015. "It is a great honour with two big teams in it, so I'm just delighted," McQuillan said.
He drew the ire of both sides after the 2013 final.
Mayo insisted that Cillian O'Connor was told they'd have more time before he tapped over a late free to cut the gap to the minimum while afterwards Jim Gavin claimed that "not only were we playing Mayo but we were playing the referee as well".
Anthony Nolan will take charge of the minor decider.
