Allianz NFL round-up: Wins for Dublin, Tyrone and Kerry as Galway and Cork share spoils
The Allianz National Football league returned this weekend with some very interesting results from right around the county.
All-Ireland champions Dublin welcomed back a whole host of stars and began their quest for fifth Division One title in a row with a 0-18 to 0-11 win over Cavan at Breffni Park.
Kerry made a winning start to the league for the first time in five years as they held off a late fightback for a three-point win in Letterkenny.
Tyrone built on their McKenna Cup success last week with a six-point win over Kevin McStay's Roscommon in Omagh. They will travel to Croke Park next Saturday for a much stiffer examination of their progress.
Kildare are at the top of Division Two after an impressive 10-point win over provincial rivals Meath. Niall Kelly was to the fore with 2-1 from play.
Clare earned an impressive point at Celtic Park considering they were without their Ballyea contingent.
Cork and Galway also ended in a draw in Salthill. Colm O'Neill kicked five points after being introduced as a 44th minute substitute for the Rebels.
In Division Three, last year's All-Ireland semi-finalists Tipperary had seven points to spare over Antrim, Sligo and Armagh played out an entertaining draw and Longford has too much for Offaly.
In Division Four, Westmeath learned that life in the bottom tier will be far from easy and had to settle for a draw with Carlow at home.
Elsewhere, Waterford beat London, Leitrim were 10-point winners over Wicklow and Wexford edged out Limerick.
