Alan Kearney key as St Mary's dominate quarter-final
St Mary's Edenderry 1-10 Patrician Newbridge 0-8 Leinster schools quarter-finals
ST Mary's Edenderry, the champions of 2012, booked their place in the provincial final with Good Counsel after seeing off the challenge of Patrician Newbridge on Saturday in Crettyard.
The Offaly school, which defeated Knockbeg in the quarter-final, had too much class for their Kildare neighbours, with Alan Kearney finding the net on 46 minutes to seal the game.
From the start of the game, playing against the wind, the 2012 Hogan Cup winners showed their style and class in what was an extremely well-drilled performance. They were worthy of their half-time three-point lead of 0-7 to 0-4.
There was never any doubting the result with the Offaly school hitting the front as early as four minutes into the tie - a lead they never relinquished.
Top-class performances from Sam Doran, Adam Mahon, Stephen McGlynn and Jack Robinson also ensured their smooth path to the final.
The game was well out of a shell-shocked Patrician's reach when Stephen McGlynn intercepted a Patrician kick-out and fed Alan Kearney to rattle the ball to the back of the net on 46 minutes.
Patrician tried to break down St Mary's, but the Edenderry defensive unit were all exceptional for the Offaly school, and in the end there was no denying the outcome as St Mary's advanced.

Good Counsel late rally seals place in final
Good Counsel 0-10 St Mel's Longford 0-6
Five points in the last ten minutes saw Good Counsel of New Ross book their place in the Leinster final with a hard-earned semi-final win in Portarlington.
Trailing by a point to Longford side St Mel's at the time, Good Counsel finally found their best form in the closing stages to settle what had been a disappointing game up to that point.
The first half was a forgettable affair, with St Mel's packing their defence and trying to hit on the break. Good Counsel opened the scoring in the opening minute with a free from Jason Shiely, with Mel's taking until the eighth minute to register a score, Darragh Doherty tapping over a free.
There were just four more scores in the first half, two for each side, as a closely fought 30 minutes ended with the scores tied at 0-3 each.
It was much the same story in the second half, as there was little between the sides. St Mel's twice took a one point lead, but with ten minutes to go, Good Counsel clicked into a higher gear.
Substitute Jamie Meyler started the run with a point from the left corner and centre-back Ian Carthy twice came storming up the field to score.
Further points from Sean Barden and Meyler again were enough to see them over the line, and seal a date with Edenderry in the final.
