Mayo forward Alan Freeman has left the All Ireland runners-up squad because of work commitments.

The 29-year-old informed manager Stephen Rochford of his decision following Mayo's two-point win over Kerry in Tralee on Saturday.

Freeman, who started in the county's first league game - a defeat against Monaghan - was due to start against the Kingdom but was replaced by Andy Moran before throw in. Moran went on to deliver a clinical, man-of-the-match display against Kerry.

“Due to work commitments, Alan can’t commit right now to being part of the Mayo squad,” Rochford told the Mayo News.

“But I’ve always said that the panel remains open-ended and who knows what might happen in the future.”
