MAYO moved one step closer to safety and maintaining their place in Division 1 with Aidan O'Shea and Footballer of the Year Andy Moran leading a comfortable win against Kildare at St Conleth’s Park, Newbridge this afternoon.

Stephen Rochford’s men had too much class for the home side – who are now pointless after five games and consigned to relegation – and went through the gears at their ease to kill off the game before half time.

Things were a lot different midway through the first half, however, with Kevin Feely's free-taking prowess and Daniel Flynn's superb individual goal helping the Lilies into a deserved two-point advantage, 1-4 to 0-5.

Cian O'Neill's side wouldn't score for the remainder of the half though and with Tom Parsons and O'Shea gaining a foothold at midfield, Mayo powered ahead with the half-time break approaching.

The returning Cillian O'Connor and his younger brother Diarmuid were both on target before O'Shea was at the end of some neat interplay between Lee Keegan and Moran to palm a decisive goal to the net, 1-9 to 1-4 at the break.

With Moran even more influential in a closing half where he kicked two points, Mayo stretched their lead with substitute Conor Loftus impressing while corner-back Eoin O'Donoghue surged forward to kick a score as they ran out easy seven-point winners.

SCORERS – Mayo: C O’Connor 0-4 (3f), A O’Shea 1-1, A Moran 0-3, Diarmuid O’Connor 0-2, R Hennelly (2f), C Loftus (1f) and A Gallagher 0-2 each, J Doherty, E O’Donoghue and K McLoughlin 0-1 each.
