A black day for Donnelly and Fermanagh
Galway 1-13 Fermanagh 0-10
Galway produced a powerhouse second-half display against Fermanagh to secure the two points at a bitterly cold Brewster Park.
The home side looked far more competent on the ball in the opening half and went in at the break four points up.
It didn't take the visitors long to strike back as Damien Comer hit a goal within 30 seconds of the restart.
Comer was excellent in the second-half and was well supported by Michael Daly, who finished the day with three points from play, in the forward line.
But it was in the middle third where this game was won.
Fermanagh lost captain Eoin Donnelly after just nine minutes to a black card for dissent, and his loss was acutely felt as Paul Conroy and Fiontán Ó Curraoin took control of proceedings.
Conroy's point after he fielded a Fermanagh kick-out was a microcosm of how the game had swung in favour of the Connacht men as they out-muscled the home side.
In contrast, Fermanagh's incision of the first-half evaporated as they laboured to just three points in the second-half.
Their day got bleaker as corner-back Cian McManus saw red for striking an opponent.
All in all, an important two points for Galway while, for Fermanagh, upcoming away trips to Cork and Kildare take on an even more daunting complexion.
