The development of 'GAA LCPE', an online portal that will feature a 'learning network', is aimed at helping students of the new Physical Education course which is on the Leaving Cert curriculum at higher and ordinary level for 2020.

Launched in Croke Park yesterday in the presence of Minister for Education and Skills Joe McHugh, it will take a "metacognitive learning" approach where teachers and students will share their collective knowledge to grow the base of information around the featured topics.

The new resource allows users to enter a fully secure, private community, with teachers linked to each other for the development and sharing of information and knowledge, while learners are specifically linked to their own class. The portal is, in turn, then supported by an online resource library giving the user access to the GAA's extensive portfolio of educational content

The LCPE course has been broadly welcomed but one of those present yesterday at the launch, Professor Niall Moyna, who is head of DCU's health and human performance department, believes a new subject should be created that is "fit for the 21st century."
