GAA community united in prayer for 17-year-old critically injured in car accident

The GAA community is united in prayer for a 17-year-old promising player who was critically injured in a car crash over the weekend.

Odhran McKenna is fighting "his biggest battle" after the car he was driving struck a tree in Belfast and his family have thanked the GAA community for their support and messages since the accident.

Odhran's club St John's GAC  posted the statement on their website. "The McKenna family have asked us to post the following statement.

"Firstly they would like to thank everyone worldwide who have sent messages of support to Odhran. The GAA truly is the greatest family in the world.

"Odhran sustained a serious head injury in an RTC and as a result has been sedated to try and give him the best possible chance of a full recovery. We expect Odhran to remain sedated until Monday evening.

"Anyone who knows Odhran will know he is a battler on the pitch. He is fighting his biggest battle ever at the minute. No better man. Keep praying. Go raibh maith agat."

Odhran was part of the Antrim minor hurling team who won last year's Ulster title.
