CPA welcomes setting up of new task force on fixtures
The Club Players' Association (CPA) has welcomed the establishment of the fixtures calendar review task force which has been put together by GAA president John Horan.
The chief executives of Dublin and Cork County Boards, John Costello and Kevin O'Donovan, are among the 11-man committee, chaired by former high-ranking civil servant Eddie O'Sullivan and charged with coming up with three proposals by the end of the year.
Connacht Council secretary John Prenty is also on board, Galway's Michael Higgins will represent the CPA and Down's Ronan Sheehan is the GPA representative.
The CPA said the make-up of the committee will "give grounds for optimism that the fixtures calendar is being addressed, root and branch and from the bottom up."
The committee have been asked to "consider current significant issues affecting the GAA Fixtures Calendar, including the current positioning and footprint of inter-county competitions and the time available for clubs" and to examine "the current national competition structures and their timing in the context of the time available for the inter-county game."
The committee is: Eddie O'Sullivan (Dublin) chair; Kevin O'Donovan (Cork, CEO Cork GAA); Stephen Barker (Derry, Ulster GAA CCC); John Costello (Dublin, CEO Dublin GAA); John Prenty (Mayo, secretary Connacht Council GAA); Michael Higgins (Galway, CPA representative); Ronan Sheehan (Down, GPA representative); Michael Hyland (Galway, chair GAA Higher Education Committee); Seamus Woods (Down, chair GAA Post-Primary Schools committee); Conor O'Donoghue (Meath, county minor team manager).
