Club championship round-up: Colm O'Rourke's Simonstown complete two-in-a-row

Simonstown Gaels are Meath champions for the second successive year as Padraig McKeever inspired Colm O'Rourke's men to victory over Summerhill.

McKeever kicked 1-4 while Conor Sheridan also chipped in with 1-2 to secure a 2-9 to 0-7 win in Navan.

In Ulster, Kilcar shrugged off their inexperience at this level to completely outplay three-in-a-row Monaghan champions Scotstown in the Ulster quarter final.

Paddy McBrearty presented himself at Clones as a one-man wrecking ball, hitting 0-8, including a seven-point haul in the opening half, when all the damage was done.

In the Leinster senior football championship, there were wins for Rathnew, Mullinalaghta and Portlaoise who saw off Newtown Blues, Eire Og and Rhode respectively.

In a high-scoring Kilkenny hurling final, Dicksboro got the better of James Stephens 4-15 to 4-10.

All-Ireland champions Dr Crokes made light of Colin Cooper’s absence and their numerical disadvantage as they produced a power-packed second-half display to dismiss hosts Clonmel Commercials.

Cooper didn’t start last week’s Kerry final because of a slight hamstring strain, and Crokes wanted to give him a bit more time to get back to full fitness.

"Colin needs some further rehabilitation to get himself ready for the semi-final against the Clare champions," said selector Harry O’Neill.
