blackwater earn some consolation

Blackwater CS recovered from a poor start to end their Dr Harty Cup Group A campaign with a 1-8 to 1-5 victory over Hamilton HS of Bandon at Killeagh yesterday.

With both sides already eliminated, this game was merely a matter of pride as they sought to avoid finishing without a win and Bandon began well, scoring the game's first three points.

However, Blackwater reeled off six in a row to lead at half-time, with Ryan Grey, Ben O'Brien and Eoghan Murray on target. Grey's 39th-minute goal put the Lismore school ahead by 1-7 to 0-4 and that six-point lead lasted until Rory O'Sullivan got a goal for Bandon to cut the gap to three, but Blackwater held on.

Next week, Waterford's De La Salle and Midleton CBS play off for the remaining qualifying spot, with Ardscoil Rís already through after winning their four games.
