DESPITE Leitrim's failure to capitalise on a number of goal chances, they still had a relatively easy win over GMIT in a lively game at the new GAA grounds in Strokestown.
Matters were evenly matched in the opening nine minutes, with Niall Prenty and Johnny Ryan slotting over points for GMIT, which were answered by scores from Leitrim's Ray Cox and Colm Clarke.
Leitrim led by 1-5 to 0-3 at the interval after a well-take goal from Alan Wynne right on the stroke of half-time put them in command.
GMIT narrowed the gap with the second half's first score, a Johnny Ryan 38th-minute free, but Leitrim then took control of the proceedings and outgunned GMIT.
