Ward facing long lay-off
Meath forward Cian Ward could be facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines after sustaining a serious facial injury in a club game, writes Colm Keys.
Ward was playing for his club side Wolfe Tones in a league match against Walterstown last weekend and was the victim of a high tackle by an opponent.
He has a suspected fractured cheekbone and needs further tests to determine the severity of the injury. Meath will hope that Ward's recovery will be quick as they are already without Graham and Kevin Reilly through injury, while Stephen Bray is still unavailable.
Ward's free-taking talents are often crucial to the Royals' fortunes. Graham Reilly has had a groin operation and may not be back in action by the end of the league campaign.
