Veterans Galvin and Kenny ready to go under the knife
Two of the most experienced inter-county footballers around will undergo cruciate ligament operations today.
Towering Limerick midfielder John Galvin and Meath captain Seamus Kenny will go under the knife to repair damage sustained recently.
Galvin had returned to training prior to the Munster semi-final defeat to Clare after suffering a recurrence of the injury in a league match against Fermanagh earlier this season, but he was unable to play any part in that game. Kenny twisted his knee awkwardly against Wicklow and his season came to a premature end.
For Galvin it is the second time in just over a year that he will undergo surgery to repair a cruciate tear. Galvin and Kenny, both 32, have vowed to resume their inter-county careers next season.
Meanwhile, Kenny's Meath colleague Kevin Reilly has succumbed to an Achilles injury ahead of Sunday's Leinster semi-final against Kildare. Reilly has not trained properly since the Carlow replay victory and was not named in last night's team.
Bryan Menton steps in to full-back, with Ciaran Lenehan coming in at corner-back. Stephen Bray will be among the replacements.
Wexford captain David Murphy has been restored to the team for Sunday's Leinster semi-final with Dublin after missing the two games against Longford because of injury.
Murphy replaces Niall Murphy, who drops to the bench, with Brian Malone making a positional switch to corner-back. Paddy Byrne and Ciaran Lyng come in to the attack for Conor Carty and PJ Banville.
Tyrone have named an unchanged team from that which defeated Armagh for tomorrow's Ulster SFC semi-final against Donegal in Clones.
Justin McMahon and Ronan McNabb had both been doubtful, but they have been declared fit.
