Tubridy crowns Clare fightback
DAVID Tubridy completed a storming comeback as Clare overturned a seven-point second-half deficit to edge Wicklow by a single score in Ennis yesterday.
The hosts trailed by 0-7 to 0-2 at half-time and conceded two further points by the 40th minute before mounting a sterling rearguard action.
Mick O'Dwyer's Wicklow dominated a rather lethargic and nervous Banner in the opening half and were full value for their five-point interval lead, with Leighton Glynn and Tony Hannon in scintillating form.
However, six unanswered scores from the hosts between the 42nd and 52nd minutes narrowed the gap to just one, and even though Wicklow made it 0-11 to 0-8 by the 57th minute, Clare never lost focus and were rewarded with a Gearoid Lynch goal with ten minutes remaining.
From Tubridy's high dropping ball, Wicklow 'keeper Mervyn Travers was out-jumped by sub Scott Kinnevan, and his fisted effort fell to Lynch, who fly-kicked home from close range.
Then a tenacious solo run by Gordon Kelly drew a foul for Tubridy's free to snatch victory.
