GLOWING tributes were yesterday paid to Kildare football legend Paddy 'Boiler' White as he was laid to rest in his native Newbridge.

An inspirational figure on the field, White (right) won a Leinster title with Kildare in 1956 and was named at centre-forward on Kildare's Team of the Millennium. He was also part of the famous Sarsfields three-in-a-row team that remains the last club to win the Kildare SFC title in three consecutive seasons, 1950-52.

White -- whose grandson Gary is a member of the current Kildare senior panel -- was captain of the 1951 Sarsfields team and having retired from playing, he later went on to serve as a selector with Sarsfields and Kildare.
