Toothless Kerry rock bottom in scoring charts
What odds would bookies have offered against Kerry footballers scoring the meagre total of 1-39 in five league games? Their only goal so far came from James Donoghue (below) after 17 minutes of their opening game against Mayo on February 3.
It means that they have since gone 5hrs 33 mins without hitting the net, an embarrassing return for a county which has always prided itself on attacking creativity. Their 1-39 return is the lowest of the 32 teams in the four divisions.
Mind you, Limerick have shown that high scoring isn't necessary for success if the defence is secure. Limerick have scored just 0-50 in their five Division 4 games, but have conceded the same amount (1-47), a trade-off which has taken them to the top of the table.
Still on the league, our friends in London would like to point out that the €9 gate receipts for the NFL clash with Carlow in Ruislip, mentioned here a couple of weeks ago, told only part of the story as they have a special arrangement with Croke Park, arising from having to travel to Ireland for some games.
