Tierney gets nod for Laois

DESPITE worries over a hamstring niggle, MJ Tierney has been named in an unchanged Laois team to take on Donegal in Sunday's Allianz Football League Division 2 final, WRITES CLIONA FOLEY.

Manager Justin McNulty has rotated the captaincy throughout the league and Colm Begley is expected to get the armband for the big game.

McNulty has secured promotion and a league final in his first season in inter-county management but he insists he still has a lot to learn.

"I'm a managerial novice. I don't have all the the answers, I'm not the guru, I'm seeking to learn with every game I manage," he said. "And I hope my players have the same mentality where they want to improve their performance every time they go out."

He credited this predecessors -- Sean Dempsey and Liam Kearns -- with laying the foundations for this year's success and said "getting a team on the way up is better than getting a team on the way down."

Elsewhere, Derry's Paddy Bradley is definitely out for the summer after a scan confirmed the anterior cruciate ligament in his knee is torn.

LAOIS (SF v Donegal) -- E Culleton; D Booth, K Meaney, M Timmons; D Strong, S Julian, P O'Leary; P Clancy, B Quigley; C Begley, J O'Loughlin, N Donoher; R Munnelly, B Sheehan, MJ Tierney.
