Super sub Deasmhumnaigh seals it for NUI Galway

Substitute Fiachra Deasmhumnaigh was the hero for NUI Galway as he landed a late point to secure victory in an entertaining clash at Dangan.

The Cork native kicked the decisive point from the right wing as the game slipped into stoppage-time.

NUI Galway should have wrapped up the issue long before that but they failed to turn their third-quarter dominance into scores. Indeed, the Galway college managed just three points from play, with the promising Mayo player Jason Doherty the main scoring threat, kicking 0-7 from frees.

Sligo IT enjoyed good spells in the first half, with Monaghan's Gary White kicking three excellent points from play before adding a brace on the restart after the sides were deadlocked at 0-6 each at the break.

Sligo looked set for victory when hitting three points without reply from White (two) and Adrian Croal to lead by 0-10 to 0-8 with six minutes left. But NUIG, with Peadar Gardiner dominant at wing-back, hit back and Doherty and Douglas levelled before Deasmhumnaigh sealed the win.
