Rule slows down wheels of change
So, semi-finals are to return to the Allianz hurling and football leagues -- but not just yet.
They can't be introduced until 2012 because it requires a rule change which can only come about at Congress. And since Congress 2011 won't take place until April, the semi-finals will have to wait another year.
That's the trouble with absolutes. It's now generally accepted that abolishing the semi-finals was a bad idea, but they can't be restored immediately because of one word in the rule book.
Surely rules are meant to serve the members who operate them, not the other way around?
It's plain daft that a worthwhile change has to wait 18 months because of one word in a bad rule.
