Rock's strike secures crown
Cnoc Mhuire, Granard 1-8
JOHN ROCK scored the crucial goal as Ballymahon overcame their Granard rivals in an exciting match at Pearse Park to become the first Longford school to achieve success in this competition.
Granard began the brighter of the two sides and Simon Cadam and Bernard Dempsey pointed to open up an early lead. Ballymahon didn't panic, though, and midfielder Trevor English replied with three points before half-time to leave his side a point adrift at the break.
Early in the second half, a Keith Carberry penalty left Granard were chasing the game and, while they displayed great heart to force the game into extra-time, it was Ballymahon who prevailed thanks to Rock's goal.
