Reynolds to the rescue

Colaiste Iosagain from Portarlington advanced to the second round after making hard work of a home win over St Fintan's of Sutton.

Despite enjoying the lion's share of possession against the Dubliners, the hosts twice allowed their opponents back into the tie and only the calming influence of captain Richie Reynolds in the middle of the park kept the plucky St Fintan's challenge at bay.

An early Adrian Broughan goal set a dominant Colaiste Iosagain on their way before a goal on the stroke of half-time from Ciaran Gallagher helped cut their lead to just three. Iosagain responded swiftly through a Rory Galvin green flag and St Fintan's fell eight points behind, but a string of frees and a goal from Andrew McCann set up a nervy final few minutes before late scores from Shane Lawless and Reynolds secured progression.
