Red-hot Rowe runs show for Meath

MEATH 3-18 WICKLOW 1-6 Leinster MFC

MEATH completed a minor double over Wicklow after the footballers had 18 points to spare against the Garden County at Navan.

Daire Rowe pounced to find the net after just five minutes for the hosts; he was the star of the show for the Royals, scoring 1-7, with five of the points coming in the first half.

Wicklow only had two points to show for their efforts as Meath led 1-10 to 0-2 at the break. And the game was over as a contest within three minutes of the restart as Rowe fisted a point and then set up corner-forward David McLoughlin for a second goal.

McLoughlin and James Cullen added a brace of points each before Cullen finished to the net after Rowe's initial effort had been blocked.

It took Wicklow 18 minutes to get off the mark after the break when Mickey O'Connor converted a free.

Wicklow – who are scheduled to face Kilkenny in the losers' group – finished strongly and outscored the winners 1-3 to 0-2 in the closing 10 minutes with the goal coming from O'Connor.
