Quirke puts Tipp through to final

Tipperary 1-10 Cork 0-9 MUNSTER MFC Kerry 0-17 Clare 3-4

PHILIP QUIRKE scored 1-2 as Tipperary overcame Cork at Pairc Ui Chaoimh last night to stay on course for a second consecutive provincial title -- they will now play Kerry, whom they beat in the first round.

The better side over the hour, Tipp had good displays from Quirke -- who began at midfield before going full-forward -- John McGrath and centre-back Dylan Fitzell.

In a poor first half, the sides shared 10 points.

Just over a minute into the second period, Tipp pulled clear as Quirke goaled, but Cork responded with points from Killian McIntyre and Ian Maguire.

A super Quirke point was followed by another from sub Ian Fahey to restore that goal lead, and although Cork sub Aidan Moynihan pointed, Tipp were stronger.

They led by 1-8 to 0-8 before Alan O'Donovan cut the deficit again, but a point from Fahey cancelled that out. Quirke extended the margin to four points in the 58th minute.

Kerry booked a Munster decider against All-Ireland champions Tipperary with a merited victory at Cusack Park, Ennis last night.

The home side relied on two goals to keep in touch early on, from Conor Cleary (penalty) and captain Jamie Malone.

In a tight second half, Kerry always had the edge over a Clare side that put most of their players behind the ball.

Corner-forward Conor Keane kicked some good scores for the visitors but a third late Clare goal, from a free by Cleary, left just one between the sides.

But a composed Kerry replied with three late points.
