Quinn comes off bench to keep Dublin on glory trail with late blitz
Dublin almost kicked themselves out of the competition on Saturday, needing extra-time and a three-point salvo from substitute David Quinn, of Lucan Sarsfields, to overcome Louth in Dundalk.
The visitors notched a massive 21 wides, and played for most of the second half with 14 men after Dara Nelson received a straight red card for an off-the-ball offence.
Dubs full-forward Dean Rock punched an Eoin Murray ball to the net to help his side to a 1-2 to 0-4 interval lead.
Nelson's dismissal seven minutes into the second half swung the game Louth's way, and the hosts were boosted by a Jim McEneaney goal in the 42nd minute which put them 1-4 to 1-3 ahead.
McEneaney and James Califf extended the lead before Dublin's Gavin McIntyre and John Cooper notched a point apiece to leave it 1-6 to 1-5 with four minutes left.
Louth sub Barry O'Hare looked to have made the game safe with a point, but Rock and Cooper replied for Dublin to level it at 1-7 each.
Restored to 15 players, Dublin bossed extra-time, though with a point between them, O'Hare struck a great goal chance off a post.
Dublin landed the next five points without response, three of them falling to Lucan's Quinn.
