Quigley brothers run riot to repel Ballinagh fightback
Roslea Shamrocks 1-12 Ballinagh 0-11
ULSTER CLUB SFC QUARTER-FINAL
An exhibition of point-scoring from the Quigley brothers in Brewster Park fired Roslea into a semi-final showdown with Glenswilly.
Roslea seemed to be cruising to victory as they led 0-11 to 0-4 eight minutes into the second half, with Seamus and Sean Quigley, who had successfully appealed red cards to play in the game, contributing 10 points between them.
However, Ulster debutants Ballinagh, from Cavan, fought back to narrow the gap to a point entering injury-time, but a Seamus Quigley penalty sealed victory for the Fermanagh champions.
Ballinagh had started brightly with excellent points from play from Colin Gumley and the impressive David Finnegan.
However, this is Roslea's third tilt in four years in Ulster, and their experience and quality showed. Their game plan is simple and effective – fire quick ball into the Quigley brothers.
It worked: Sean and Seamus turned the game around, soon making it 0-6 to 0-2. Ballinagh responded with fine points from play from Padraic O'Reilly and Kevin Smith, but it was Roslea who finished the half better.
Shane Lynch broke the Quigley domination with a fine score before a Seamus Quigley free and a majestic point from Sean, who fielded high above three Ballinagh defenders before finishing from a narrow angle, made it 0-9 to 0-4.
Two Sean Quigley points on the restart fired Roslea 0-11 to 0-4 ahead before Ballinagh replied with seven of the next eight points to make it 0-12 to 0-11 entering injury-time.
Peter Sherry then caught a superb ball in midfield and launched it into Seamus Quigley, who raced into the square and was hauled to the ground. Quigley stepped up to fire to the corner of the net to send a relieved Roslea into the last four.
