O'Dwyers power Kilmurry to victory
Six years ago Kilmurry-Ibrickane captured the title by defeating Liscannor in the final. Yesterday at Cusack Park, Ennis they did it again, recording a merited six-point victory.
Liscannor's 10 wides over the hour, five in each half, told a tale of a side who had plenty of opportunities, but just couldn't match a slicker Kilmurry outfit.
Kilmurry had an abundance of individuals in contention for Man of the Match, whereas Liscannor relied too much on captain Brian Considine and trailed 0-4 to 0-2 at the break.
The winners opened their account in the eighth minute with an Odran O'Dwyer pointed free.
By the end of the first quarter they led by 0-3 to 0-0, with further points from Michael O'Dwyer and the classy Noel Downes. Liscannor finally got off the mark in the 18th minute when Considine kicked a good score from distance.
The influential midfielder registered their other first-half score, while the reliable boot of O'Dwyer added another for Kilmurry.
Though Liscannor made it difficult for their opponents at times in the second half, their inability to find the target proved their undoing.
A Dara Blake point reduced the deficit to just two points (0-7 to 0-5) by the 54th minute, but a strong finish from Kilmurry ensured a fifth title.
