O'Dwyer bows out as Clare humiliated
LAOIS 3-17 CLARE 0-10 All-Ireland SFC Qual Rd 2
Mick O'Dwyer stepped down as Clare manager after his side succumbed to a rampant second-half display from Laois at Cusack Park.
It was a somewhat unsuitable end to his glorious management career as goals each side of half-time from John O'Loughlin and David Conway sent Laois on their way, with Ross Munnelly punching to the net in added-time to crown the win.
The fairytale ending looked a possibility midway through the first half when Clare held a 0-6 to 0-2 lead, but from then on they only registered four late points to take the mean look off the scoreboard.
Clare were rampant when they built their four-point lead, especially with Laois misfiring at the other end, but the latter finished the half like a whirlwind, and hit 1-5 without reply before the break to lead by four.
The goal arrived from midfielder O'Loughlin in the 31st minute when he ran on to a neat pass from Donie Kingston and finished low to the net, which gave the visitors a 1-7 to 0-6 lead at the break.
Laois continued where they left off at the break and, when Conway goaled in the 40th minute in an unanswered scoring blitz of 2-10, Clare were well gone.
So too was Micko.
