Nixon unveils latest AFL draft

The latest AFL recruitment camp to be hosted by agent Ricky Nixon will be held in Gormanston College at the beginning of next month.

Nixon has chosen to publicly reveal the venue and date for his camp despite ongoing misgivings within the GAA about his venture.

However, the managing director of Flying Start has long since stopped worrying about GAA approval and has pressed ahead with his next series of trials aimed at recruiting some of the finest young GAA talent for the Australian game.

The camp will take place on Wednesday March 3 and will involve up to 25 young players.

Representatives of four of the clubs attached to Flying Start's Irish vehicle, St Kilda, Richmond, Geelong and the Western Bulldogs, will be present for the trials.

One of last year's recruits, Kerry's Tommy Walsh, is expected to make his AFL debut next week in the pre-season NAB Cup.

St Kilda boss Ross Lyon has confirmed that Walsh will make his AFL debut against Collingwood on this day week, although most likely off the bench.

"He has surpassed expectations," Lyons said. "We're pretty keen to give him an opportunity. We know he will crash and bash at 196cm and 102kg. I hope he doesn't crash into our players but he is exciting.

"The question is how quickly we bring him up to speed with Aussie Rules."

Former Longford minor star Michael Quinn, who played six games for Essendon last season, is not included in their NAB Cup squad.
