Murphy fires up donegal

Donegal 2-8
Cavan 0-7

Donegal emerged from a fresh spring night as Ulster U-21 FC champions after a deserved victory over Cavan at Brewster Park, Enniskillen, last night.

A healthy crowd turned out for this midweek fixture that was full of energy and enthusiasm. Along with those characteristics Donegal brought physicality, cuteness and a certain Michael Murphy.

The senior star finished the night with 1-5 to his credit and was unstoppable at times. Fouled for a point he converted, two points from play and a goal just before half-time demonstrated his class.

Cavan were the better side for the first 15 minutes of the second half and outscored Donegal three points to one, with Barry Reilly and Brendan Fitzpatrick hitting brilliant scores from play.

But, just as it appeared Cavan might draw level, Donegal landed a goal and a point through Dermot Molloy inside two minutes.

Cavan battled hard to the final whistle, but Donegal were never going to concede the goals that the Breffni men would need.
