Moorefield bite back with Wolfe strike to advance

Moorefield 1-16
Athy 1-6

Jack Sheedy's Moorefield clinched a county final date against Newbridge rivals Sarsfields with a comprehensive win over a youthful Athy side at Newbridge yesterday.

Inter-county stars Ronan Sweeney and David Whyte shone brightly for Sheedy's impressive charges, and the two Newbridge rivals will now clash on Sunday week.

Moorefield worked their way into a 0-5 to 0-1 lead after 15 minutes but Athy got back into the game when county U-21 starlet Darroch Mulhall smashed a loose ball to the back to the net after 16 minutes.

However, slick Moorefield responded brilliantly with a well-worked goal themselves two minutes later from Philly Wolfe, and the result never seemed in doubt after that, with Athy only registering three points in the second half.
