Mickey Harte extends reign at Tyrone
MICKEY HARTE is to remain as Tyrone manager until at least the end of 2015, by which time he will have completed 13 seasons in charge.
The Tyrone County Board moved early to retain his services as he is in the final year of his latest three-year term. It's most unusual for a County Board to announce an extension of a managerial arrangement in mid-season but Tyrone obviously wanted to leave no room for speculation, irrespective of how they fare in the championship.
Harte has undertaken a major rebuilding job this season and the announcement that he is to remain in place for a further three seasons is a sign of the confidence the county have in him.
Tyrone have already made an impressive start to the season, clinching promotion to Division 1 despite being beaten by Kildare in the Division 2 final last Sunday.
"It's a great privilege to be asked to take charge of the Tyrone senior football team and I gladly accepted the offer," said Harte. "To be asked to manage the best players that your county has to offer is still a wonderful honour."
Tyrone have enjoyed the best spell in their history since Harte took over for the 2003 season, winning three All-Ireland, four Ulster and two league titles.
