McGivney the hero

Cnoc Mhuire 1-6
Davitt College 0-8

DAVID McGIVNEY converted a last-minute long-range free to give Cnoc Mhuire victory in a thrilling final in Ballinasloe.

There was still time for more drama as the Mayo students got an opportunity to force the game into extra-time when they were awarded a free from a difficult position in injury-time, However, Keith Mulchrone just failed with his effort.

Cnoc Mhuire held a one-point advantage at half-time, having scored the only goal of the game in the fourth minute.

Davitt goalkeeper Martin Corcoran made a good save that rebounded to Aidan McElligott, who flicked it into the net.

Davitt relied heavily on Keith Mulchrone, who registered six of their total.

After the break, Cnoc Mhuire, led by man-of the-match Liam O'Sullivan, appeared to have extra in reserve and were worthy winners.
